Guy McDonald: Reignition!

KIA first dan Brown Belt and Champion fighter Guy McDonald has reignited his desire to achieve a Kiado-Ryu Black Belt. He was extremely active at the Karate Institute of America from 1986 to 1990 but he had to stop his martial arts studies because of back surgery. Three years ago Guy was featured in the KIA article, The KIA’s Own Hollywood.

With changing times and circumstances, Guy has reignited his original desires to become a Kiado-Ryu Black Belt and is back studying again. In doing so, he brings a new call sign with him, “Skull,” discarding his original nom de guerre as “Hollywood.”

Why “Skull?” As you’ll recall from the 2018 article, Guy has had three crainiotomies, so it seemed quite appropriate. Plus, his wife Deirdre likes the new call sign and if she approves and supports it then, well, case closed.

In fact, due to his medical issues, Guy is in the process of writing a book entitled, Having Fun with Brain Cancer in order to help and inspire others who live with the disease. We wish him all the best in this endeavor.

The KIA looks forward to Skull’s progress as he works to join the elite Black Belts of the Kiado-Ryu!
