Black Belt #25: Dr. Tim "Odin" McCord, Ph.D.

If ever there were a Norse god in the flesh, it would be Tim “Odin” McCord. With his flashing red locks and powerful physique, Odin marched to the beat of his own drum. Beginning his KIA journey at sixteen years of age, he achieved his Black Belt in 1993, took time off to pursue a doctoral degree in biology, became a college professor and, after ten years of absence and beginning a family, returned once again to the KIA, this time sans the red locks but with a still-powerful physique.

Odin is a big man and practically immovable. One funny story in this regard was when he and Mr. King were sparring in the Lambert Street studio. When Odin decided to pounce on the much smaller and much older Mr. King, the little guy grabbed Odin’s right leg and attempted to lift it off the ground, hopefully forcing the Norse god to lose his balance and plummet to the floor. Nothing doing. Not only could Odin not be thrown, his leg wouldn’t budge and Mr. King received a well-deserved Norse god whuppin'.

As powerful as he is, Odin’s control is excellent. A thoughtful man with a kind heart and studious, professorial disposition, Tim McCord has never injured anyone. He loves to fight, but his ego is not attached to his hands or feet. He is truly caring. But make no mistake, if he were to choose to unleash his voluminous power, you wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end!

Interestingly, Odin is the Norse god of wisdom, war, art, culture, and the dead, as well as the supreme deity and creator of the cosmos and humans. Without a doubt, and given all his diverse accomplishments, Tim McCord’s nickname is truly apropos.
