Of course we’re just having fun with Rose “Renegade” Hoberg and her husband Kurt “Raphael” Hoberg. This photo was taken at a KIA function in 1992. Rose and Kurt actually met at the Karate Institute of America, having been introduced by Kurt’s mother, who was also a KIA student. Interesting destiny.
Rose holds the distinction of being the first adult female to achieve a Black Belt ranking at the Karate Institute of America. That was in 1990. She is the twelfth Black Belt in the Kiado-Ryu system. Kurt is the 21st Black Belt of the KIA, earning his first dan ranking in 1992. It is another interesting fact of their mutual destiny that their Black Belt numbers are mirrors of each other, 12 and 21 respectively.
