Jake “Achilles” Dale smiles proudly as Mr. King places his Purple Belt around
his waist, concluding his test on 21 April. Achilles is a wonderful young man,
possessing noteworthy respect and manners, excellent athletic skills, and a
sensitive, artistic soul. We continue to look forward to more great things
from Jake as he continues on his KIA journey.
Jake “Achilles” Dale goes through a blocking set during his Purple Belt test.
It’s challenging to do a test solo, but Achilles, the young warrior he is, the
son of a Warrior, handled the challenge with courage and skill.

Annette “Warrior” Dale (green belt) and fellow student, Zemia “Barracuda”
Garrett (orange belt) on Saturday, 12 April, 2014.
So this is what happens when a Black Belt husband and wife have a little
squabble! It may look ominous for her but you should have seen him afterwards!
Of course we’re just having fun with Rose “Renegade” Hoberg and her husband
Kurt “Raphael” Hoberg. This photo was taken at a KIA function in 1992. Rose
and Kurt actually met at the Karate Institute of America, having been
introduced by Kurt’s mother, who was also a KIA student. Interesting destiny.
So this is what happens when an assailant does not heed the warning to Back
Off! More than an ouch!, as Christa demonstrates one way to manage an attacker
(hubby Mike).
Exhibiting the ferocity and assertiveness of a tiger, Christa sends an
unmistakable message to her would-be attacker to BACK OFF! This type of role
playing taught in Karate Institute of America self-defense workshops helps
women develop a sense of empowerment and skill. Still, hubby Mike, playing the
part of the assailant, got the message!
Teens and above are welcome join us at the Orange Public Library on 5 April
